Modash organic traffic growth chart from Ahrefs

Apr 2022 — Jun 2026 · Organic traffic growth · Data from Ahrefs

Objective

What we set out to achieve

Modash needed more organic traffic to their product and blog pages. They had good content but weren't ranking where they needed to be for commercial keywords in the influencer marketing space. Our job was to close the authority gap with backlinks.

Starting Point

Where Modash started

When we started in April 2022, Modash had decent organic traffic but kept missing their internal growth targets. Their content was strong and they had good topical coverage in influencer marketing. The problem was the product pages — rankings had gone flat because competitors with bigger budgets were outbuilding them on links.

Our Approach

A multi-faceted strategy for the influencer marketing space

We ran four link building tactics in parallel, each targeting a different part of the influencer marketing ecosystem.

Editorial Link Insertions

We found marketing and SaaS articles that were already ranking well and got Modash added into them with contextual links. Because these pages already had traffic and authority, the links carried real weight for Modash's product pages.

Guest Posting

We worked with bloggers who'd written for publications like Buffer and Hootsuite before. Their existing relationships with editors meant we could place guest posts on high-DR domains that Modash's target audience was already reading.

High-Authority Domain Links

We got backlinks from G2, HubSpot, Cloudways, Debutify, and Venngage — all DR 80+. These links pushed Modash's domain authority up faster than anything else in the campaign and helped product pages break through ranking positions that had been stuck for months.

Listicle Placements

We got Modash added to high-ranking influencer marketing tool roundups. Being listed alongside tools like Grin, CreatorIQ, and Upfluence in these articles sent referral traffic and made it clear to Google that Modash belonged in the category.

Challenges

Obstacles we overcame

Editor Resistance to Listicle Edits

Most editors didn't want to touch their existing listicles. They'd already published them, they were ranking — why change anything? We got around this by offering updated screenshots, fresh pricing data, and feature comparisons that made their articles more useful. That gave them a reason to edit.

Expert Blogger Collaborations

The bloggers who'd written for Buffer, Hootsuite, and similar publications don't respond to cold emails. We connected with them through LinkedIn, warm intros, and industry events. It took time, but those relationships turned into guest post placements on sites we couldn't have reached through standard outreach.

Quality Links Need a Solid Content Strategy

Links alone didn't do this. Modash already had a strong content foundation — detailed product pages, in-depth blog posts, comparison articles. Each link we built amplified content that was already good enough to rank if it had the authority behind it.

On-Page SEO Must Be Optimized

We cleaned up title tags, tightened internal linking, and filled content gaps before scaling the link campaign. Sending link equity to poorly optimized pages is a waste. Modash's on-page work was solid, which is why the links actually moved rankings.

Strategic Links as Competitive Differentiation

In influencer marketing SaaS, every major player is investing in content. The backlink profile is what separates page 1 from page 2. The G2, HubSpot, and Cloudways links specifically helped Modash climb past competitors who had stronger brand recognition but weaker link profiles.
