Flipsnack Reddit Case Study

AI citations of the Reddit threads naming Flipsnack
October 2025 to October 2026 · Rankings and citations from Ahrefs, checked 19 October 2026
Objective
Get Flipsnack named where people ask how to publish a PDF
Reddit is the most-cited source across answer engines, at 3.11% of citations (Profound, 4B+ citations, Nov 2025). When a marketer, designer or self-publisher asks how to turn a PDF into a flipbook, catalog or newsletter, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity and ChatGPT can pull the answer from a Reddit thread, and the same threads rank on Google. The goal was to get Flipsnack named, in context, in the threads that those people and answer engines both read.
Starting Point
A wide audience spread across many communities
Flipsnack is used by newsletter writers, designers, authors, resellers and SaaS marketing teams, and each of those groups talks in its own subreddits. The campaign started in October 2025. We did not measure Flipsnack's Reddit or AI citation footprint before it started, so this case study reports what the placements earned, not a before and after lift.
Our Approach
279 comments in 103 subreddits over 12 months
Threads where people ask how to publish
We looked for questions about newsletters, catalogs, portfolios, self-published books and lead magnets: the threads where someone asks how to turn a PDF into something people will read. Across 12 months that meant 103 subreddits, led by r/Newsletters (32 comments), r/graphic_design (20), r/selfpublish (19), r/SaaS (18) and r/reselling (17).
Comments that answer the question
Every comment was written by hand, with a median length of 136 words. Flipsnack is named in context, next to the tools the thread was already discussing, such as Canva, Issuu and Adobe Express. No links to Flipsnack: brand-name mentions only, so the comment reads as advice rather than an ad.
Two campaign phases
25 to 41 comments a month from December 2025 to April 2026, a pause in June and July, then a second phase from August 2026 that placed 68 comments in September alone. Spreading placements across 103 subreddits keeps any single account or community from carrying the campaign.
Results
The Reddit threads that Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity cite
71 of the 275 threads are visible: 69 rank on Google for 257 keywords between them, 91 of them in the top 3, for an estimated 1,401 visits a month, and 12 are cited in AI answers. The table shows every AI-cited thread and the top Google-only threads by traffic.

How to read these numbers: rankings, visits and citations are Ahrefs data for each thread, checked on 19 October 2026. Visits are Ahrefs' estimate of Google traffic to the whole thread, not to the comment. Citation counts show how often an AI engine cited the thread; Ahrefs does not show whether each of those answers also named Flipsnack. Google AI Overviews includes citations found through Google keyword searches as well as tracked prompts. Threads placed in September and October 2026 have had only weeks to earn rankings and citations.
Takeaways
What the Flipsnack campaign taught us
One thread carries the campaign
The r/content_marketing thread, a list of tools people use for content, ranks for 49 keywords, 41 in the top 3. It drives 1,012 of the 1,401 estimated monthly visits (72%) and 63 of the 78 AI citations (81%). 69 of the 275 threads rank on Google at all. Volume gets you into more threads, but the outcome rests on the few that Google already surfaces.
Google AI Overviews cite the Reddit threads Google ranks
67 of the 78 citations came from Google AI Overviews, and 10 of the 12 AI-cited threads also rank on Google. The two that don't rank were cited by Perplexity, not Google. When we pick threads now, a thread's Google ranking is the first thing we check.
New threads rank within weeks
28 of the 88 dated threads from the second phase, placed between August and October 2026, already rank on Google: 32%, against 23% for the first phase. The r/selfpublish thread from 8 October already ranks for 15 keywords. Reddit threads reach Google fast, so a comment placed today can be in front of searchers this month.
ChatGPT is the hardest engine to reach
None of the 275 threads is cited by ChatGPT, against 67 Google AI Overviews citations. Our HeyReach Reddit campaign earned one ChatGPT citation in 68 threads, so this is a pattern rather than a one-off. Without buyer prompts tracked before the campaign, we can't say whether ChatGPT's answers about flipbook tools changed.
Compare with the HeyReach Reddit case study: 68 comments, 6 AI-cited threads.
